The act of ‘trust’ these days is proving to be a delicate thing. As I sit at the computer everyday, I observe that ‘trust’ of each other is becoming more and more fragile. With the use of social media and the opportunity to observe each other along with all the negative side of the online world and politics, and wars, and pestilences, it takes a lot to build ‘trust’ and maintain it.
I think we can all learn a lot from some of our forefathers and mothers. Trust was built on mutual respect, and treating each other as one would like to be treated. There was help given to those in need and communities supported each other with simplicity. So in this world of mass media of all kinds, how can we ‘trust’ each other again? How can we rebuild relationships with each other that are not divisive?

A number of years ago I listened to a fresh Psychology graduate in conversation explaining about the high rates of trauma in society. There is no doubt, it is a big issue. But rather than judge and criticize people when they act out in some strange behavior, we should all be asking ‘Why is this person acting in such a way?’ As an analyst of sorts, I have always asked Why something is the way it is whether it be a person, a thing, or a circumstance. It has given me great life education and an empathy and understanding that otherwise I would not have. At one point I could not ask such questions because of my own internal struggle to understand and live life, but I am grateful to say, that with lots of self education and an accepting mind to learn new things, it has opened up new pathways in life.
Based on all I have seen I think we all need to start connecting with each other in the way we used to, before technology came along. It is the only way ‘trust’ of each other can be regained in each other and thus rebuild broken bridges. Rather than throwing up one’s hands at the state of the world and saying ‘this world is doomed,’ we should be looking at ways to reduce the division and start dialog to create a new respect for each other. I see and hear of stories of people disagreeing and quite honestly I say, ‘it is all so unnecessary. Life is too short.’ We are all on this planet together trying to make the best of it. We need to simplify our relationships with each other so as we can move ahead in a positive manner and note, that we all have similar circumstances regardless of culture, creed, location, etc.

We are in the season of travel and this is an opportunity for those of us who can travel to see and learn from other cultures, or communities. It is a way of opening up the doors of perception to new ideas and creativities that you may have thought about before. So when you are out and about this Summer season, take time to ponder and open your mind to new avenues of thought and make a move to rebuild broken bridges in your life if you can. Believe me, it is not easy but very much worth it. I have walked this path and I am happy to say, it worked out well.
