What a pleasure it has been to uncover the story of one of our globally known composers, namely Margaret Brandman. Back in 2022 Sylvia Live recorded a series of episodes with Margaret detailing her life and work. A fascinating look into how her life was shaped from a young age with music took centre stage and this resulted in a composer that now covers both classical and contemporary genres along with her provision of a host of educational materials for up and coming pianists. Recently Margaret contacted Sylvia Live with news of travel, upcoming concerts and the recent releases of music created and performed with her close collaborator cellist Ariel Volovelsky. During the Covid lockdown, Margaret was inspired to produce with Ariel a beautiful album entitled Binna Burra Dreaming some of which you can hear below.
Margaret’s upcoming concerts in Amsterdam promise to be memorable events. Planned for the 9TH AND 10TH SEPTEMBER 2023 at 3pm they are free to attend. These two international concerts will present the rich and varied compositions of award-winning Australian Composer Margaret Brandman, in a variety of styles from Contemporary Classical through to Jazz and Latin-American. The program includes art-songs, piano solos and works for violin with piano.
The composer herself will be introducing the works and performing together with soprano Elisabeth Van Der Gulik and violinist Leon Bartelsman.
